| Without many man-made structures, BCWS has a wide variety of habitats including wildlife that is becoming rare in other places. |
(Do you see the skink?)
During the first few mornings you
can learn about mammals, birds, insects, mushrooms, reptiles, amphibians,
geology, plants, fresh water life, weather, etc.
Campers have about 6 mornings for projects they have chosen: projects have ranged from pen-and-ink drawings to pond scum, from pressed plants to salamander surveys, from bridge building to bird watching. |
The food is plentiful and tastes great, for those who do and do not eat meat. Staff and campers eat together family style |
The daily inspection report is always
taken very seriously...
After lunch and rest, we get going again by taking a refreshing swim |
Those who are not swimming enjoy their
free time in a variety of ways.
| Every afternoon there are
new options to choose from. Some favorites have included: |
Natural clay pots |
Pond Scum |
There are frequent opportunities to
climb 60 feet into the treetops for canopy studies on platforms and
walkway.
One feature at dinner is recording
the birds or butterflies seen that day.
Every evening brings something different:
nighthikes, folklore, games,
skits, cook-outs, sleepouts, and special events that change every year. |
| Each session is stuffed, no two are the same, and many campers come year after year. If you would like to see a slide show about the camp (in the Washington DC area) and/or speak with a BCWS camper to hear more about the place from his or her point of view, just contact us. | |
